Community Policing Advisory Committee

Purpose 

The purpose of the Community Policing Advisory Committee is to:

  • Make recommendations to the Town Manager and Chief of Police with regard to
    organizational matters and procedures,
  • Serve as a liaison to enhance community and police relations,
  • Participate in annual review of the Police Department’s Citizen Academy,
  • Receive, review, and consult on the quarterly professional standards report,
  • Consult and advise on the Police Department’s strategic plan, and
  • Provide an annual report to Council on a Council requested topic.

Meetings

Regular meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 7:00 pm, in the Conference Room at the Police Department. Please note that meeting agendas and minutes are available to review online.

The Community Policing Advisory Committee is comprised of nine (9) Town residents and the terms of office shall be three (3) years, or until their successors are appointed and qualified, except that the initial terms of members first appointed shall be as follows: three (3) members shall be appointed for a period of one (1) year, three (3) members shall be appointed for a period of two (2) years and three (3) members shall be appointed for a period of three (3) years.

Members serve staggered, three-year terms and shall not be eligible for more than two consecutive three-year terms.

Vacancies

There are currently no vacancies on the Community Policing Advisory Committee.  

If you are interested in applying for a Town vacancy, you may do so by printing an application form and returning it by email to clerk@townofchapelhill.org or by fax at 919-967-8406. You may also contact the Town Clerk at 919-968-2757 for an application form.

The deadline for submitting an application form is noon on Monday prior to a Council Business meeting when appointments are scheduled. Applications received after the deadline will be held until the next opportunity for the Council to consider the appointment.
